I am not athiest at the moment but undersand the reasoning of it's arguments. It's about what can be observed and the reality of human existence...It is a very humanist belief relying solely on the experiences of our lives. This makes a lot of sense to me because our current existence is the only thing we know for sure. Still, I think it blindly negates many things that cannot simply be explained away in a logical manner, thus a philosophy that can encompass both the humanist, and phenomenal aspects of life would be optimal for me.

i think the main reason im athiest is that religion is a man made item, god was an idea thought up by man
how can you rely on someones imagination
but thats my opinion on the matter

Im all for solipsism. The Theory that the self is the only thing that can be known and verified, or that the self is the only reality.
But I also side with Existentialism which is basically human life is unexplainable and it stresses the freedom of choice and the consequences of ones actions

I don't know what I am. I guess agnostic. The way I see it is like this: If before you were born it could somehow be described to you everything that is experienced while being alive--the colors the sounds the smells the emotions ect., I'd probably have a hard time believing that because I only had my nothingness to base that off of. So the thought of some sort of being more powerful than humans, and some sort of afterlife isn't complete shit to me, but at the same time I only know what I've seen. The way I see atheisim is like the way I see all other religions. Only instead of some other being worshipped, you are your own god. Which I guess if fine. But I know I don't know anythin fo sho. Did any of that even make sense?

i thought we already established that solipsism was stupid in the mormonism thread. i guess not so ill have to establish it again. because you arent the only reality. there are 6 and a half billion people on this earth that we have to worry about. solipsism is the reason capitalism exists. it enables greed and selfishness to exist in a world that loves both. so i cant say it is the greatest thing

AND Existentialism.
Its a theory not a truth and how i base it is that all i know is thta i am hman i have the same reality as everyone as, as far as i know and/or think
hence w hy it mildy applies to what i think. I know what your saying about how it can spiral down to leading into egotistical ways but im not an egotistical asshole so i try to apply and include whatever i can into my beliefs, they are quite flexible, you see.
However acknowledge that my beliefs are my choice just as yours are yours and dont disregard my belief in existentialism too since that seems to better suit the needs of which your takling about.

I know that there is not a god, because if there was a god he would not allow a douchebag like Steve to live in his world. However, maybe there is a god, and Steve's only here because one day he's going to be beaten to death on live television so everybody can be filled with happiness. Man, I hate Steve.
