last night i had a huge thought about drugs and alcohol and wondering how its illegal
this might be a little crazy and far fetched but i was thinking about it as drugs/alcohol, are a way of making you feel better, and in that sense people eat chocolate or drink coffee to feel better
so in a long around sense i dont understand how stuff like that can be illegal, i dont know, tell me your thoughts

what im about to say is a bit extreme but somewhat true since abusing your wife can make you feel better. I mean in the sense that you get a lot of your angers out of you. and it is illegal because you are hurting a human being. I know you are gonig to say, "but Nick that is hurting another person." I would respond with somethnig like this. "Almost all of the alcohol or drugs that you take can be traced back to a time when either an animal or human were hurt in the process of making or acquiring it." Unless you made both yourself you are supporting the suffering of someone else. that is why i think it is somewhat good that they are illegal. It made sense when i was thinking about it and im not sure if it does anymore.

Well alcohol is legal if your 21. True, it is lame that you can be sold poison just because the government gets a cut of the money brought in from it. But we did have a topic on Moderation and i feel that, that topic brought up some pretty good points as to watching yourself and controlling yourself around potentially harmful substances or anything at all. But basically it is legal becuase the government is getting money from it and they can't stop people from using it anyways (i.e. Prohibition).
Drugs are illegal unless you go for a Libertarian perspective on politics and I personally dont think they should be legalized. That isnt to make me sound like a hypocrit for using them sometimes but i do so knowing its at my own risk much like everyone who chooses to dabble in them should know. I think if drugs were legalized there would of course be a bunch of shitheads abusing them even more so and doing even worse shit to endanger themselves and the general public. Also, legalizing them would make them more avaliable which would create more problems. No matter what drugs arent going to go away so nothing is going to stop people form obtaining them or creating a new form once their old drug would happen to be taken away. However, i can see how people argue against some of the drug laws such as Possesion of marijuana, if the amount confiscated is large enough they could serve longer sentences than some rapists, robbers, etc. But i dont disagree with the DUI laws or any of that people are just morons if they drive drunk.
Oh well, i voiced my opinions, hope i didnt leave anything out.

I think a common misconception is that if it feels good, it must be ok. I'm pretty sure mike, that that's not what you're trying to argue, but if drugs were legalized that's the way the majority of people would deal with them. Sure drugs make you feel better, but when you sober back up, reality is just as shitty as when you left it. What it all comes down to is moderation. And in today's culture moderation isn't celebrated too often. Look at how obese America as a whole has become. That's a direct result of too much eating, and too little excersize. The facts are in front of people too-- obesity can lead to many diseases that can easily be prevented by a balanced diet and excersize. Yet people still don't head the warnings. Now imagine if this same idea was applied to more addicting substances. Shit would get out of control fast. If people were more inclinedto keep a balanced lifestyle, then I wouldn't see what would be wrong with having certain substances legalized. But until the majority of the population can get themselves under control, I wouldn't really want to see many drugs legalized.

Your life would probably be considerably shorter. But other than that it probably wouldn't be bad. Just better make sure you don't sober up though, cause the hangover would be a bitch.
